A man is called to reserve military training and ends up having one of the worst days of his life. That night, he spends his last few coins on a cheap plastic lighter, but it ends up in the hands of a gangster on his way to Busan. Not willing to give up his last remaining possession, he vows to get his lighter back at all costs.
Bongu (Kim Seung Wu) is a timid and often shy reject. Laughed on by his fellow high school classmates at his high school reunion, Bongu comes home to find out that the annual try-outs for the Marines is tomorrow morning. Even after being turned down for lack of physical abilities for eight times, Bongu still gives it a shot.
Down on his luck, Bongu fails horribly at the tryouts. Without money for even a cab fare home, Bongu spends his last pennies on a lighter and a cigarette which a fellow Marine-tryout member gave him. While in the public restroom of the local train station, Bongu accidentally leaves the lighter and it's picked up by none other than Yang Chul Gon (Cha Seung Won), a powerful, but poor Jo Pok gang leader. Bongu might not have much, but he has his pride and he asks Chul Gon for the lighter back. Receiving a good beating, Bongu is more determined than ever to get the lighter back but little does he know that Chul Gon is getting on the train to hijack it and hold the Senator hostage . . .
