Based on an inspiring true story, Barefoot, Gi Bong is a wonderful tale of a man who overcomes the odds to change not only his life, but also the lives of many others in his small rural village! Directed by Kwon Su Gyeong, who co-wrote the script with Kwon Sun Won, the film centers on the title character, Gi Bong, who suffered severe brain damage when he was only a child as a result of a terrible fever. Consequently, even as a grown man, he now possesses the intellectual and emotional maturity of an eight-year-old boy. The villagers quickly dismiss him as a fool and dub him "Barefoot, Gi Bong" because of his propensity to run barefooted in order to deliver food to his mother before her potential meal gets cold!
Clearly, running is his finest talent, so it isn't too much of a surprise that Gi Bong would want to make use of his skills in the upcoming National Amateur Half Marathon! His intention, as it turns out, is to use the prize money to buy his mother a new pair of false teeth! How's that for filial piety? Inspired by the man's dedication, Mr. Baek, the village chief, volunteers his services as Gi Bong's new coach. Taking Mr. Baek's encouragement to heart, Gi Bong trains hard to accomplish his goal, and it isn't long before the villagers get a little lesson on love and family from this so-called fool! Starring Shin Hyun Joon, Kim Soo Mi, Im Ha Ryong, Tak Jae Hoon, Kim Hyo Ji and Do Ji Won, Barefoot, Gi Bong is one uplifting film you don't want to miss!
