After having studied at a U.S. film school and returning to Korea, Hyeonjun (Kim Taeu) encounters Munho (Yu Jitae), his younger classmate, who is now married and a college lecturer. At a Chinese restaurant, they drink and reminisce about the old school days and a girl they both once loved: Seonhwa (Seong Hyeona). Seven years ago, Hyeonjun was dating Seonhwa but, after their relations soured, he flew to the States. Munho, who had a secret crush on Seonhwa, started a relationship with her immediately after Hyeonjun's departure. Now back at the present, the two, being engaged in a war of nerves, decide to look for Seonhwa, who is a bar owner in Bucheon, a satellite city of Seoul. When they meet her after seven years, they, quite contrary to their expectations, find that she shows neither much affection nor emotional volatility to her former friends. At least in this movie, the future becomes the present when Munho and Hyeonjun drink together at the restaurant. Seonhwa has played a role of supporting the two male characters for the past seven years; she had been the future of the two. Ironically, Seonhwa is depicted here as a hopeless figure - symbolizing that despair begets hope. Hong's movie shows life as it is. Likewise, the characters in this movie are candid and frank. A Korean-French co-production, the film was invited to join the competition at the 57th Cannes International Film Festival in France. Hong Sangsu's filmography includes: "The Day a Pig Fell in the Well," "The Power of Kangwon Province," and "Virgin Stripped Bare by her Bachelors."
