See the scandalous lives of Hong Kong's desperate housewives in Hi, Fidelity, a melodrama about desire, sexuality, and the dangerous secrets they create. Co-written and directed by the multitalented Calvin Poon, Hi, Fidelity depicts the lives of three women who get into more than they bargained for when they decide to search for a little fun outside of their respective marriages. Co-writer Yang Yee Shan, who made her scriptwriting debut with the prostitution drama Whispers and Moans, gets to reveal another side of the prostitution world this time, exploring the psyche of gigolos and their female customers with a dash of over-the-top melodrama. Produced by Ng Kin Hung (Girl$), this supremely entertaining film is also notable for its rare all-Hong Kong cast, led by Carrie Ng (Naked Killer), Michelle Ye (Accident), and Pat Ha (On the Run), making her official comeback after 20 years. While the spotlight goes to the women in the film, the biggest surprise of Hi, Fidelity is likely to be pop idol William Chan, who plays against type by taking on the role of the gigolo who throws the three women's lives into turmoil.
After discovering that her husband is cheating on her, Bing Bing (Pat Ha) joins fellow housewives Josephine (Michelle Ye) and Mrs. Ho (Carrie Ng) on a trip to a gigolo club in a city across the China-Hong Kong border. At the club, both Mrs. Ho and Josephine fall under the charms of the club's new star gigolo Bill (William Chan). However, the more the women indulge in their newfound sexuality, the more trouble they attract. Soon, terrible secrets are revealed, and lives will be shattered forever. |
